In 1982, Argentina was still in control of the Military Junta. The invasion of the Falkland/Malvinas Islands was simply a way to deviate attention to the awful economic situation the country was in. As we all know, it backfired for the military dictatorship, as the loss of face for having lost the war, made very difficult for the military to justify the hold on power. Democracy ensued.
