Obviously, McEwan is far shrewder than you give him credit for. He finds the policies of the Israel govenment odious and detestable. He clearly felt he would have more effect if he accepted the invitation and spoke at the event, publically, condeming the most flagrant and unjust policies pursuedf and enacted by this government. Far more effective, in the immediate, than simply rejecting the invitation. He is not only a major author but a man of moral conscience and the most memorable thing about his visit will be his exercise of that conscience that stands in condemnation of Israel's policies of choosing agression and injustice over peace and jusice. Thank you Ian for speaking those words.
