Firstly elections are going to happen in January / February and so far Olmert doesn't have a political party. Kadima want him back but they have already held their primaries and so can't oust Mofaz in favour of Olmert at this stage. The only way he would be able to stand in the next election without being put on the list ( not for the top slot ) of an existing party or if he stands as an independent. His name is mud right now with the majority of the public who believe he is guilty as sin and should be in jail rather than standing for election so at this point he will be an obstacle to any party that takes him in. If he wants to get back into politics he needs at least 3-4 years for the dirt to rub off and him to make a name for himself as a responsible politician. Before they get to excited with nostalgia Kadima should remember Olmert didn't win them the election based on his policies or qualifications he won because he inherited the leadership of Kadima when Sharon had his stroke and Kadima itself was elected on a Sharon sympathy vote.
