Zahal is supposed to be the people's army but it's no more. It acts as if it had an independent authority being "the guardian of Israel" without accountability to the government. This is not democracy. This is a putsch. Israelis are complaining bitterly that Abbas cannot rein in his dissident armies such as the hamas militia, and is conditioning every concession on such an act, yet the Israeli ministers are not able to restrain their own army. The war in Lebanon was such a fluke, because the army presented irrealistic scenarios and nobody in the gov ernment dared to resist it (maybe with the exception of Tsipi Livni). Where are we going?
