I think people are confusing different things. One is the law which doesn't allow men and woman to touch, in case the woman is 'unclean' due t her period. Cler and can be respected. The other is: demanding that someone else 'moves' so you don't have to sit next to her, that's something else. On the one hand the religious man wanted the woman to respect him, on the other he wasn't respecting her.
