Eldar is right. The point of no return has come. The question for Israel is should she even try to come back? Everything for Obama is about winning his next election. He believes that if withdrawals from the war fronts of Iraq and Afghanistan are in progress, and the politics of both nations are not a complete mess, he will have a good chance of winning. He's not wrong. This contextualizes why he views Israeli behavior as such a liability. If American Jewry were united behind Israel like South African Jewry instead of being wimpish like British Jewry, it could be otherwise. but these diaspora behavior patterns are long established. Israel should have no expectations of an immediate reconciliation with the USA. But Israel will have to moderate her actions seeing that America will be unilaterally establishing a Palestinian State as its new ally. Israel must not knee jerk into anti-Americanism, try to keep relations decent and look for other strategic alliances.
