I would want to have peace in the whole wide world, but I fail to see how Israel would benefit from this behind the scenes negotiations among individuals who represent no one. All indications show that Iran is calling the shots in Syria. Indeed, the meeting between Abbas and Assad was monitored by Iran. Furthermore, the details of this deal among the three who worked it out, would be largely detrimental to Israel. Why would Israel withdraw to 1967 borders, which are not even the internationally recognized borders? Why would Israel agree to a reduced military presence, on its own tiny soil, west of the Golan, all the way to the outskirts of Tzfat? What would Israel get out of this, besides vague promises? Israel would even give up reconnaissance flights, depriving her of intelligence. I am sure that I am missing something here, so I am waiting for someone to enlighten me.
