So many talkbackers criticize Israeli policies because they themselves are beneficiaries of similar and much worse policies that have made them sovereign citizens of lands stolen from indigenous peoples. Citizens of the U.S., Australia, and etc. can feel good about their opposition to Israeli policies as a way to assuage their own guilt about living in lands in which genocide and ethnic cleansing were the norm; they aren't ready to return the land to its rightful owners, but they can feel good by pretending to care about others.
