most us jews are not religious & not nationalistic. they define themselves as american jews; not jewish americans. it makes sense that don't really relate to Israel. If you are religious then you may possibly care (although not necessarily) about the holiness & history of the jewish people in their homeland. if you are nationalistic then you may get the feeling of the national connection. but most jews in america cosider themselves american!
