You can't hide anything dangerous in the screen. X-rays should have shown the presence of any large masses. You can't fit anything into a laptop besides a slip of paper. And if you think it has explosives, you don't want to shoot it, you want to to blow it up from a safe distance. It looks like it wasn't even disassembled. Maybe they were just messing with the rich American kid? (rich, because she has a somewhat expensive laptop and is touring the Middle East).
