According to Yoel Marcus this is not going as well as anticipated because Israel is not applying sufficient force that will make any cease fire impossible on the ground. Others advocate no cease fire since it will return to what Ms Rice refers to as the "staus quo ante". What is needed, they advocate, is a levelling of the entire villages where the "enemy" is hiding and firing from. Turn the bunkers into infernos but level the hostile areas. Then and only then will Israel have quiet on their borders. Apparently, they feel this is what should have been done with Gaza a long time ago-one big demilitarised zone, devoid of population. After turning Gaza into a demilitarised zone, Israel can state that it is out of concern for not hitting civilians and they will expect that to be believed as they do their claims that civilians are not being targeted in Lebanon.
