The Syrians must understand that they have nothing to fear from Israel -- that is at least not a direct attack. There must be communication at least at the lowest diplomatic level to prevent misunderstandings from starting a war nobody wants. Despite what Bush may think, talking to your enemies is not a reward. Its the way of doing business. We know that Olmert wanted a dialog with Syria a year ago, but he backed down under pressure from Bush. Olmert should start doing what is best for Israel, which BTW in the long run will be what is best for the US.
