It would be a non-Arab, NATO member (involving all of NATO) invading an Arab state in civil war; carrying Kurds in Syria, Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iraq and Iran into the conflict. When one NATO member is at war, others are obliged to defend it... This a far messier situation than bombing Iran, which would not involve ground forces at all. Why the sidelines?
