JNF like all organisations ( charities, businesses, military, governments ) all make bad judgements at times but that doesn't mean they are past their sell by date and no longer have a reason to exist. If a train crashes killing lots of people should we say there is no need for trains anymore because we now have cars and busses? JNF should be allowed to make bad judgements now and again without us saying because they made that bad judgement there is no need for JNF anymore. The JNF today not only plants trees but they fund irrigation projects, make national parks for people to enjoy. How much higher would taxes have to be if the government was going to fund even a tiny fraction of the amount of projects the JNF undertakes free if charge?
