This article makes the point that Israelis are incapable of agreeing to a just peace absent outside pressure. Because western governments, particularly the US. have, for whatever reason, elected not to take measures designed to change Israeli behavior, it is up to consumers, and people in arts, entertainment and academia to do what they can do. As to the authors of articles accusing Hawking of hypocrisy for not boycotting countries like China, I say this. Although other countries may engage in human rights abuse that is worse than Israel's, Israel's abuses are bad enough. Secondly, Israel is a democracy, which means the Israeli people are responsible for the government's policies in a way that, for example, China's people are not. Third, in the case of Americans, our government's history of rendering practically unconditional military and diplomatic support to Israel makes us partly responsible for Israel's transgressions, making us equally responsible to try and do something about them.

from the article: Mr. Hawking, you're late to the party
