The causes of the defeat in Lebanon are clearly (a) the lack of information about the Hizballa's bunkers and (b) the concept that a war can be won by a reactively small number of crack units coupled with a sophisticated air force. The lack of information (a) can be blamed on one person, and in this case it must be the former chief of staff. The conceptual error (b) cannot be fairly made the responsibility of any one person.
