Not one US administration official has said that the problems of the region will disappear upon the initiation of a two-state solution. It is only those who seek to undermine the Obama administration's position that float this argument. What we want to achieve is a draining of the swamp, to remove the cynical excuses that Syria and Iran have for continued hostility and exacerbation of the Arab-Israeli conflict. It may be true that Syria has not been as forthcoming with measures to make achieving peace easier, but neither has the current Israeli government. Syria is sticking to the position it has held for decades regarding the Golan Heights and maintains its illegal policy of arms transfers and financial support of Hizballah just as Israel continues its own illegal policy of occupation of territory claimed by the PA for a paly state, Ghajar in Lebanon and the aforementioned Golan Heights that Syria claims. The US is merely offering a productive avenue of escape from this lunacy.
