As I have pointed out in numerous posts about the Carmel fire, the real culprit is the lack of forestry services. A properly run forestry service would have recognized the danger that excessive accumlation of brush, weeds and debris represents in drought conditions. They would have done controlled burns of small sections to destroy those accumulations before a major fire could break out. Other gentle readers have pointed out that the forest that burned was all pine trees of a single species that had never been thinned for timber production. Why was there not an effort made to plant other species like oak, hickory, elm, linden, sweetgum, etc. The 'greening' of Israel must be undertaken as seriously as the defense of Israel. Enough of this finger-pointing! Fix the problems not the blame.
