    True the American Jews are in many ways out of touch. Not nearly as out of touch, though, as Barkat and many whiny, pie-in-the-sky, ivroy-tower, post-zionist pontificators of Haaretz. Jews from New York and Chicago occacionally talk to a range of Ìsraelis (e.g., in their cab and bus rides to the kotel and to museums in Tel Aviv). It has obviously been decades since Barkat has had a real conversation with someone outside his comfortable cafe clique.
