It just may be that American and Israeli interests are not always necessarily parallel; perhaps the interests are largely parallel but the relative importance of the factors making up those mutual interests are not seen in the same light by the two governments. President Obama was elected by the American people, (to whom we owe no few debts of gratitude), to defend and represent American interests, and only American interests. Whether you find it palatable or not, there are many, many, many loyal Israelis for whom the present Israeli government represents no more than complete failure of nerve and common sense. If the American leadership agrees with those Israelis and not the right wing failures, I, for one, am not surprised.
