Israel is reputed to have had nuclear weapons for over 40 years and in that entire time none of its Arab neighbours have felt sufficiently threatened by that to pursue a nuclear program of their own. Enter Iran, and reports by the IAEA like the one in Feb 2006 that Iran is cheating on its treaty obligations under its 1974 NPT Safeguards Agreement (IAEA Board of Governors Res. GOV/2006/14 (4 Feb. 2006)). Suddenly Egypt, the Saudis, and Gulf States (as well as Turkey) are talking about going nuclear. Seems that they know where the real threat is coming from even if the useful idiots who are Iran's apologists don't.
