Your editorial is timely. A national religious political coalition in the Knesset disgraced us this week in their ugly denunciation of J Streeet, a representative body of liberal humane Zionism in the US and and integral part of the Jewish People and of Zionism which committed the ultimate crime by opposing the settlement enterprize and for calling for an end to the Occupation and the initiation of a Two State Solution for both Israel and Palestine.. Kadima MK Otniel Schneller, repeated the national religious mantra by denouncing J Street as "leftist extremism, anti Zionist with no interest in supporting Israel". And what makes his hateful, shameful and downright ignorant ranting even more perverse is that it comes from the Opposition. Anyone today who loves Israel but who opposes the sanctity of the settlements and the continuation of an unbearable Occupation and who advocates a two state solution baed on equality for two peoples (Jewish and Palestinian) is an "extreme leftist" and a "traitor"?. The word "left" is by their definition "extreme" in itself, self hating and seditious. "Democracy" is despised and twisted and anything "liberal" is perceived as the enemy. And while J Street was being shunned and stoned by our esteemed MK Scneller and collegues, Sarah Palin was being hugged and adored by no other than Sarah Netanyahu and her doting husband. Ask the American Jewish community what they felt in "heart of hearts" when they saw this new alliance being forged between our government and the darling of right wing fundamentalism and intolerance in the US. A parting note, Gideon. You are not alone. At times I even get pissed off by what you say, but i thank God every day your voice is heard. Thank you for keeping the conscience of Israel alive.
