Voters in Israel have consistently rejected the vision of the left. This has been the case since the days of Brit Shalom, Buber and Reiness.Israel has come to trust its military and military solutions to all its challenges, rather than negotiations and diplomacy. Through its lifetime it has become use to dominance not compromise. There seems to be no test of the left left anymore. Beilin, Aloni and Meretz are scorned as weak, naieve or worse. Quite simply Mr. Beilin you have no base. The base is right and those are the dominating voices, increasingly religious and nationalist. Israel is simply not interested in agreements. Military strikes are the preferred path to settling its disputes with its neighbours. And always, self justification.
