Surely not in 1930s. Begin was in poland then and during Soviet invasion of Poland in 1939 (Coordinated with Nazi Germany) Begin was taken prisoner by the Sovites and sent to Gulag. Only, in 1943 when Soviets were at war with invading Wehrmacht , Begin was released and allowed to join Anders Army. Andres Army was then allowed to move through Iran to the Middle East and Begin was stationed in the British occupied Palestine. Begin stayed and took charge of IRGUN , launching a revolt against British occupiers in 1946. He was disgised as a Rabai. Brits never managed to arrest Begin. In 1947 Irgun took part in the War of Independance. Although wronlgy accussed as a fascist by Ben Gurion he served 20 years as head of Herut in Kneset. Then formed a government after winning an the election in 1977. Begin was the first PM to achive peace agreement with Egypt. The ex guerilla leader showed to be a true democrat. Compare Begin to Arafat and you can see why Palestinians were led by incompetant and corrupt leader(s)
