When princes become old men I once wrote a letter to Ehud Barak back in 1999 advising him how to win an election. I said Solomon's nation prospered because he chose peace in making diplomatic marriages to the princesses of neighbouring nations. And Rabin had left a legacy for a new Labour leader to carry on. I said that Reagan and Gorbachov, de Klerk and Mandela and then Blair and IRA leaders like Adams in Northern Ireland had chosen peace, they had learnt to dance to the tune that is peace. I wrote again in 2000, saying that making peace with Arabs gaining acceptance for Israel within the Middle East required treating Arabs in Israel as equal citizens. So its with some disappointment I note that this article mentions Barak in the same breath as Netanyahu and why it does. So much time has passed, so much rain has fallen and yet what song is there to sing?
