I would go further and add that even if November sees Obama defeated and a Republican holds the Presidency, there will be no American support for an attack on Iran. Despite rhetoric from Presidential hopefuls regarding Israel/Iran, the American people, especially the defence establishment will not tolerate yet another ME war of choice and everybody knows this. Israel will not attack Iran alone. But Israel will probably take the consolation prize and initiate another Cast Lead on Gaza. The absence of hostilities is the greatest threat to the Zionist dream of Greater Israel. Israel wants the West Bank and to complete the transfer of Palestinians from their ancestral homes. Every Israeli govt from 67 onwards has worked towards this in its own way. Pretty much every action Israel takes is a vehicle to stall the inevitable process of coming to a just resolution of the rights of the people who were dispossessed of their land in order for the state of Israel to come into being. No doubt Israel can, once again, kill a lot of people in Gaza as well as smash their infrasture, without too much danger to the IDF, so what is to stop them? Certainly not the Israeli people who cheered on the last carnage in Gaza.
