"Who are the Palestinians defending by their unremitting qassam attacks?" -Gina Quassam rockets are signaling to Israeli civilians that the palestinian people still exist, still hates the occupying state for close to 40 years of state terror in the face of extra jurical assasinations, disrupting everyday life int he form of check points, prevention of health care for families, travel restrictions, splitting up families and forcing people to dispere across the globe without any chance to return. That, as well as denying palestinians a valid state and refusal to leave back the occupied territories are what the rockets are reminding of. Nothing nice at all, but that seems to be the only way for Israel to even notice palestinians in a system worse than the apartheid-regime Israel built up to distance themselves from "unwanted" ethnical peoples. However, in one aspect you're right, weapons never defend anything, the only casue damage.
