So the Jews of Eretz Yisroel were gathering intelligence on people who had perpetrated murderous violence against them in the past. What is the big deal? It doesn't change the basic fact that the Arabs instigated all the wars and were beaten back. It also does not change the fact that there is absolutely no proof that Arabs were ever forced to leave the country. Many in fact, stayed behind (that's why there are over a million Arab citizens of Israel). On the other hand, there were no Jews on the Arab side of cease-fire line. If anyone is responsible for ethnic cleansing, it is the Arabs who have a history of intolerance toward the Jews. The article says one of the villages' names was Al Yahudiya which means "The Jewess." That should give you some idea of who the original owners of the land were and who the land belongs to.
