It is perhaps easy to forget that nothing good at all had come from Jordan's 1948-1967 occupation of the West-Bank, nor from Egypt's 1948-1967 control over the Gaza-strip. However, after the Six-Day War and as a direct result of Israel's administration, the Arabs living in the conquered areas suddenly became more prosperous than the people living in the surrounding Arab nations. Sadly, we all know what happened next. In 1994, an autonomous body was set up - the Palestinian Authority - where a maffiosi government took power. The situation has been going downhill since then. Israel uses a democratic process - if people don't like their leaders, they can send them home. In contrast, the Arab life style, also in the WB and Gaza, is essentially undemocratic. For that reason, Israel must continue to control those territories in one form or another.
