"The Israeli community was subject to murderous attacks from the 1920s on." Really, Alan. There was no "Israeli" community at this time. There was the Yishuv, Jewish settlers claiming Palestine as a home for the Jews. No, they were not merely "self defense measures". The attacks were carried out by a people that felt their rights and land being pulled out from under them. They fought back. Can you argue that their attacks (the Arabs) were any less "self defense"? The blowing up of the KDH, the explosions at the shops along the Jaffa Gate, the Arab bus explosions, the Semiramis Hotel in West Jerusalem, the attacks in Haifa, the destruction of over 600 Arab villages and the displacement of their populations to other towns where they were ghettoised. So who was attacking whom?
