What DOES Israel want? Does it want it all? If so, what will it do with the dispossessed Palestinians? They are not just going to disappear. Not even the most lunatic of the Settlers think that the Palestinians will disappear. That is why they destroy orchards and fields. That is why the Settlers unleash pogroms against the Palestinians just as the Czarists unleashed rioters against Jews. Israel shows it's current inclination by the fact that the IDF stands aside as the Settlers pillage. Then so did the Cossacks. If the Palestinians, resist the IDF suddenly becomes involved - as did the Cossacks. Thus Israel has a position. It has a course of action. Israel SEEMS to have decided what it wants. But has it? Or is it a nation who's extremists have a goal and the rest of the nation has no clue? Did ALL Germans want the Jews exterminated in 1942? Or did a minority - an unopposed minority - lead the nation into a depravity of horrific proportions? What is the difference between pursuing depravity and acquiescing to it? What does Israel want? Only Israelis can determine that.

Head of J Street Israel refuses to take the blame for lack of peace

Yael Patir, Israel director of the left-leaning U.S. Jewish body, sat down with Haaretz to talk about Trump, the gap between U.S. and Israeli Jews, and the growing anger at the Israeli peace camp. Though she concedes boycott efforts by some on the left have a negative effect, she rejects calls to keep peace efforts local.
