It could be that Condi still has her larger goals in mind, like finding an arrangement that will prevent a rerun. (Too bad she doesn't think of undermining Hizballah thru Israeli peace with Syria. Too ideological here.) Bush seems still to be backing Israel. I don't see where he bailed out. However, the general atmosphere in the UN is such that there might be a resolution proposed to cease fire forthwith. Will the US veto? Will be hard. P.S. Russia no doubt has an opportunity to develop ties with the Arabs, the US being so unpopular. But their position on Hamas and Hizballah seems simply taken for regular reasons. Radical Islamic movements frighten the Arab regimes, so you don't lose friends if you are tough on Islamists.
