When the Arab Spring started 2 years back. Khamenei went public in a speech saying... this is proof of an 'Islamic Awakening'. But in 2013, a few weeks before Rohani was elected president of Iran. A text message was circulated in Tehran. It read as follows... 'If you're having trouble sleeping at night, DON'T WORRY... it's not the high prices, the poverty or the unemployment. You're simply suffering from an Islamic Awakening.' Does it surprise anyone, why Rohani... a relative moderate of theocratic Islamic politics, would garner 51% of the popular vote. It may surprise Khamenei or the ultra-orthodox Clerics of Qum... but maybe instead, it should give them pause and a true understanding of what a majority of Iranians really think about Islam and the rule of law.
