Western european countries still are run mainly by men. Scholar positions in EU at faculties for exemple are only to some 15% occupied by women. Merkel is a real exeption. BTW, her husband Joachim Sauer never seems to talk at all, or maybe as a chemistry professor his vocabulary is confined to his work area. I don't even know the name of the opposition leaders wife. The mayor of this town here is openly gay, I don't know if or to what extent his boy friend is politically active or receptive, too. But chauvinism actually is an interesting question: not to grant power to women, but rather seek to control them. Maybe it's because men need a woman to procreate while women could simply take a portion from a sperm bank. To have children of one's own loins rather than adopted ones still seems to be reputable. In Freudian terms, we would then not have to talk of female penis envy, but rather of male uterus envy.
