There's no benefit to any party not to resume negotiations as in the Quartet's timeline proposal, the core issue of borders has to be addressed within the next few months. Otherwise a U.N. declaration of a Palestinian state by 2012 will not be in the making with such delay on a critical issue in the dispute. It's definitely a major setback for Israel if the PA loses the leadership of President Abbas, so I don't know what they're thinking.
