reported in the last haaretz article on this subject... the one thing that israel seems to conveniently ignore about this whole issue, and has all along, is that russia made it clear a year or two ago, that a decision to sell them or not would be based on the interest of maintaining a military balance of power in the region. that statement made it almost certain, even back then, that the deal would be going through. because this sale does exactly that. it will balance things a little bit for iran...at least defensively. offensively it's still s.o.l. but the timing of this is no doubt in consideration of circumstances that are increasing the likelihood of israel acting on its longstanding threats. makes you wonder sometimes, just how much israel's own aggressive nature contributes to the support and arming of its adversaries.
