It's taken a number of years and with efforts of great complexity and working under precarious conditions in the West Bank. However it seems to me that the biggest challenges for the PA are not the Israelis or the settlers but the more extremist elements within their society who are contrarians to socioeconomic progress and reconciling with the Jewish State, who they've been in conflict with over the span of 63 years. The humble, intelligent, and easy-going Salam Fayyad really represents the ordinary Palestinian but we know the minority can disrupt the path towards peace in the Middle East. Nevertheless we must give it a try for the sake of future generations and global peace.

A milestone birthday is as good an opportunity as any for a midlife crisis about the Middle East crises.
