Jews have a right, by dint of surviving and thriving intellectually and culturally over thousands of years and against all odds, to be proud. The pride does not come from being "better" than anyone else, or than any other group, but in view of our own achievments. If we now are to be relegated to tribal cheerleading as a means of boosting our collective egos, we lose what made us special, and lose the right to be proud.
