War with Iran would be an absolute disaster and consequences could threaten the survival of the state of Israel, and certainly the support it enjoys in the governments of the west. Iran's nuclear wishes are not yet known, and continued hostilities are far more likely to push it to get a weapon. Even if it got a weapon, as Ehud Barak said it is for its own protection, from nuclear India, Russia, Pakistan AND Israel. Mad rightwing predictions of Iran wishing to commit suicide by attacking Israel are so preposterous they don't deserve to be taken seriously. As Dempsey said Iran is a rational actor, and Israel wants to maintain its monopoly on nuclear weapons, that is the reason, hence the hysteria. But if Israel wants real security in the light of the Arab Spring and Iran, the only answer is peace with the Palestinans. This will bring Israel security that no military might can give
