Vladek, Your position that peace that concerns Israel can be formulated without Israel is ridiculous. The only way to impose a peace without Israeli cooperation is to defeat Israel militarily and decide what scraps to throw to her. (Do we toss the Jews into the sea or not?) Palestine can be declared an independent state by the UN. That is fine. The result will be that the portions of Palestine possessed by Israel will be disputed territory between two recognized states. That will put the Israeli possessions over the Green Line into the same legal position of Russian occupied enclaves within Georgia (S.Ossetia and Abkhazia). No one is doing anything about them but no one recognizes them either. Consequently, the border will still be decided by negotiation. Changes nothing. One impact will be a mass expulsion of Palestinians from Arab States. An unfortunate unintended consequence.
