Vishniak (sour cherry liqueur) is mentioned a couple of times, Here's how to make your own. It's better than store-bought: Get a dark glass gallon jug with a good screw cap. Fill it half full with pitted sour cherries. Add about 2 inches of sugar on top of the cherries. Fill to the top with 100 proof vodka. Close the jug and make sure the cap is tight. Put in a dark closet for at least 6 months. Pour off the liquid and enjoy. When you have finished the vishniak, you can eat the alcoholic cherries.
