    Hamas agreed to share power with Fatah - it's a unity government, and Abbas has been given the authority to negotiate peace. Of course, it is required that any peace deal be approved by an expanded PLO that includes Hamas and Palestinians everywhere. Just an aside - many people think an overwhelming majority of Palestinians favor Hamas, but that is not true: Excerpt from a press release (Mar 26, 2007) by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research: "If new legislative elections are held today, 37% would vote for Hamas, 43% for Fateh, 11% for other lists, and 8% remain undecided..."
