By entering Israel with a forged passport under an assumed name, it would seem to me that he violated Israeli laws to escape punishment in another country, and therefore doesn't deserve the protection of Israel's laws. If he got married and had children under that assumed name, the marriage should also be considered fraudulent, shouldn't it? How do we even know if his becoming religious isn't just an attempt to get better conditions in a US prison? Even his lawyer doesn't know how long he has been observant...
