Rav Yosef is a renowned scholar in his own right and both a halachic moderate and amenable person. Rav Lau likewise. They can both be sucessful. As for heritage, Anshel what on earth do you know about the Sephardi heritage, nothing. Which is why you don't get or understand Rav Ovadia. A failing of most respondants here. I cannot speak for any of them but please be assured that Rav Yitzhak Yosef will be honored and welcomed with great joy in all Sephardi communities the world over. But then we respect our Rabbis and our traditions, something in short supply on this board. As for the Rabbinate, the overwhelming majority of Rabbis are God fearing and honest. Don't lets give too much to a few bad beards in the barrel. For sure better administration and controls are necessary, but that can be dealt with. I think we are alll in for a pleasent supprise with these two Chiefs.
