Many in my family on my grandmother's side, Gever (or Gewar) family, emigrated to the United States from from Blonie beginning at about 1910. Sadly, many never left Blonie and perished in the holocaust. In June, 2011, I visited the Blonie cemetery and saw no evidence of it being restored. Walking through the cemetery, I could feel (parts of) tombstones under my feet, which I was able to uncover by removing a few handfuls of earth. Apparently, there is little left to salvage in the cemetery. Perhaps this the time to appeal to the Polish Jewish Cemetery Restoration Project to address the criminal destruction of our past and demonstrate solidarity with the Jews of Poland and the world.
