    The reality is that we have a lot (religiously) in common with the Muslims, far more even than with the Jews. In addition, both of our civilizations are intertwined and are indispensable to each other. Wether we are talking about the ottoman empire, the Persians or the peoples of Palestine, we as americans should see the region within this context not just from the myopic view of post ww2 which is pretty much irrelevant today, few people care or even played a role in it (ie China, India, Brazil the americas, the persians, etc) - in any case, as I travel throughout the americas I see slowly this happening with Islam replacing the catholic church in many south american areas. In addition, with the rise of latinos in America and the new Obama generation, the times THEY ARE CHANGING- and Israel seems like a relic of the past - the bastard child out of the heels of europe, and acts as such.
