Yes, peace is a US national interest. But if the parties are unwilling to make progress, it won't happen. If and when an Israeli government gets serious, maybe there will be an interlocutor on the other side. Maybe not. As Victor Lana said, it appears the Friedman plan is taking shape. Call the White House if and when you think you can find some common ground with the Palestinians. You probably still have George Mitchell's number, too. Meanwhile, Fayyad is preparing the institutions of government, so Palestine can declare its existence next year. Who knows? maybe Obama will be like Truman and independently recognize them without a by your leave.
