242 orders Israel to withdraw from lands east of the Green Line after negotiating minor adjustments FOR THE SAKE OF SECURITY, not as a land grab for settlers. 242 stresses above all else, that territory can not be acuired by force, which means that Israel can't basically claim any territory east of the Green Line. 242 is a security council resolution and therefore mandatory. Nobody in the world recognises Israeli sovereignty east of the Green Line. Israel itself does not claim sovereignty east of the Green Line. It has never annexed territory there. It does not offer Arab inhabitants there Israeli citizenship. The Israeli high court accepts Israel in in 'belligerent occupation'. The Green Line IS the basic border. Otherwise it's just rule of the jungle time and if Hebron and Ariel are 'disputed territory' then so are Tel Aviv and Haifa.
