"The Times report quoted military officials as saying that while the United States is hesitant to embark on an attack on Iran, Israel is a "different matter"." - Haaretz An Israeli attack on Iran will be regarded by the Syrians as a US attack, and will bring about the same retaliation against the US and Israel; attacks against US forces in Iraq and other bases, missiles against Israel, and perhaps terror against Jews. Since the consequences for the US are so substatntial, Israel will not attack without US permission. According to reports, the Israeli attack against Syria was done with US permission too. I don't know what the Penatgon sources are trying to gain now but mentioning an Israeli attack. The Pentagon is against any attack on Iran; they don't need another war to make them more miserable than they already are. Perhaps they express fear that Israel will attack, and are trying to get Bush to work on restraining Israel. I bet this is all just talk. No action expected.
