Remember Shalit, or have you forgotten that already? You either eliminate terrorists or negotiate with them. Israel has failed after decades of effort to eliminate Hamas so it must choose perpetuity of conflict or negotiations. Israels supporters argue that you don't negotiate with someone who fails to recognise your existence and who would deny your state. Such opponents can be found amongst Netanyahus coalition regarding the Palestinian people and their State. After all, Hamas isn't seeking direct negotiations with Israel. What is actually happening is that Abbas is trying to appeal to Hamas supporters to back diplomacy and popular resistence instead of militancy. The only people who oppose this track are those who oppose any Palestinian reconciliation and unity simply because it furthers their cause.
